Here Mama recounts a moment where my great, great maternal grandfather got beaten and kicked out of their home by his daughter (my grandmother’s mother, who was fondly called ‘Drewdrop’).
And based on how my grandmother put it … it was for good reason.
I was always curious if my grandmother had any memories of her grandparents. I wanted to see how much information and stories far back into the family line I could get.
She doesn’t have many memories but sometimes my questions would trigger a moment that she herself would be surprised she has recollection of.
And as always, I take these accounts with a grain of salt, reminding myself that the account is being filtered through my grandmother’s memory, her emotions, and personality.
Either way, they almost always amuse me and are packed with good lessons … if you can find them.
