Babysitter Slackness

#6 | Mama, 1942

My grandparents had a long history of being bar business owners.

A history that spanned long before my mother was even dreamed of gracing Neilson Street with her presence.

All things considered; their journey served its purpose, and was one filled with crazy stories like this one.

One night Mama just happened to come back home only to find the babysitter attending to someone else’s boy child instead of hers 👀

All I can say is that Mama didn’t play when it came to her children. She still doesn’t.

While the approach wasn’t always the best (and often still isn’t), I force myself to believe that her heart was always in the right place even when her head wasn’t.

It seems to run in the family.

Disclaimer:

As always, I take these accounts with a grain of salt, reminding myself that the account is being filtered through my grandmother’s memory, her emotions, and personality.

Either way, they almost always amuse me and are packed with good lessons … if you can find them.
